ok, did a little more research on the sauces and decided to buy 1gal of boiled linseed oil, plus 1qt of mineral spirits. 5x the sauce, 30% cheaper. i'll mix this up and use it on the job box...

yeah, i use the acid to prep old metal for paint but i can't see using it on patina. it also makes the rust black-ish, and often leaves white mess that needs ground back off.
