that got interesting. i was about to pull the fuel tank with no clue how much was in there and finally decided to try it this way. good thing too, there's like 20gal in there. the gantry with electric hoist is quickly becoming one of my favorite new toys! there's also a lot more clean-up i wanted to do with the bed off, so decided to figure that out. only had 6 of the 8 bolts holding it on, i broke one when i accidentally had the big impact in fwd. PO also had the tail light wiring fished in stupid, that will be much easier next time.

random note ... bed with bed mat and tonneau cover weigh 511lb

fuel sender has never worked since i bought Hank, and with the speed sensor blowing up on on my way back from WI ... it was time to fix something. this will work with the new gauge set i hope to put in one day soon, stock speed sensor not so much. not many options for the 1st gen diesel sending unit out there, hopefully the spendy Fleece SureFlow is as nice as it looks.

removed the helper bags i installed that aren't needed with these springs, will put em back with new springs later. ditched the factory overload pads. pulled all old, and some unused, fuel line that was in there. have new filler hose rubber and tank seal for it, and completely new fuel lines. i have -8 run down under the cab, so easy connection from the tank now to finally ditch the dry rotted old lines.

found a really nice hole in the exhaust i didn't know about ... yay surprises.

then the aux tank in the back. i was 100% sure there was nothing in that thing ... turned out to be like 9 gal of diesel so old it was starting to revert back to being a dinosaur. but it all came out perfectly clean with no rust, no trash, and best yet no water. some cracks in the mounting need welded and i want to clean it out really good to be sure. a little paint and i'd like to throw it back in. i can't decide if i should just tie it to the main tank, aux valves, carry some offroad with a pump to fill anything, or a tank of WMO. i don't know, future Matt problem.

a good pressure washing went a long way, once sealed up she'll get another. a little black paint before the bed goes back on and she'll be back in service.
