Don't some do that just to show it's been done, like for quality control purposes...similar to using a white pen across bolts to show they've been torqued?
That's why plumbers use purple cleaner, to show inspectors that the connection has been properly installed...but you can buy clear if you're doing it yourself and don't want those pipes to look goofy colors if they will be exposed in a common area.
