trailer stolen over the weekend...

Dammit. M'f'ers stole our trailer over the weekend. Jeep wasn't on it thankfully, but we're supposed to leave for a wheelin' trip this Thursday morning. Greaaaat timing.

It couldn't have been stolen next week, or like 2 months ago when we weren't using it any time soon? Bleh.

Thanks. We can't store it in the street (we might be able to, but I wouldn't want to) and we don't have room in the backyard anymore so we've been keeping it at the machine shop that Jen's dad runs. It was there earlier last week, but disappeared some time between Thursday/Friday and today. They've got security cameras covering the parking lot and storage yard (not the first time something's been stolen out of the yard) so hopefully they'll have something when they review the camera feeds tomorrow. I doubt the police will recover the trailer though, it'll probably be used to steal something else or will be turned into a landscape trailer or something. We'd just put a full set of brand new tires and brakes on it too; two trips on the new tires and one trip on the brakes.

That sucks man. I hope you had it coverd by insurance. My full coverage trailer insurance is $7 a year.

thats what I was going to ask about... were there any anti-theft measures in place? if so what so that I don't use those...

bummer bout your trailer J I truly hate thieves. we had the cops come over sunday asking if I had seen anything go down at the king of the hill asian neighbors house as someone kicked in their back door and stole the remaining stuff they had in there (they've mostly moved selling that house) and the trampoline out of their back yard.

oddly enough, the mexican neighbors behind them came up with a trampoline and tables and ceiling fans that the king of the hill asian neighbors found to be familiar....

Had a tongue lock on it... the kind with a ball that goes up in the tongue and a bar that goes over the top.

No signs of the lock or pieces of it on the ground (if they'd cut it off somehow), so my FIL thinks they just chained it to the back of a pick-up truck and drove off with it. It happened during business hours and there's no way you could cut that thing off without attracting attention.

Thats a much more serious lock than what I use... I just use a gun trigger lock looped through the little tounge latch/lever on the top and that's it. They could still put the trailer down on their ball, it just wouldn't seat all the way down, or lock onto it.

Long story short, my trailer got jacked with just a lock on like phat mentioned. They cut it and were gone. I got the trailer back.

Now I use masterlock that actually goes into the ball and over the top along with a lock above and chain a set of wheels together.

I called in yesterday to check on my lift kit order and in talking to your wife, it sounded like she was having loads of fun dealing with your insurance carrier and the forms.

i would have chained it up to a pole or fence or concrete block... then would have had something on the trailer to physically impel theft...

I feel your pain. Several years back we had our 25' 20K tandem dually gooseneck stolen the week before our yearly trip to Moab! Luckily we were able to find a replacement, but it still pissed me off somthing aweful. *******s backed over a 12' concertina topped fence to hook up to it! I just know I'll run back across it some day and get to murder a b1tch.
