Thumbs up

Went to Pepboys today and purchased a 23" long Cherry Bomb glasspack and 2 clamps for $25 after my original muffler got ripped off a couple of weeks ago on a run. After running the XJ straight out the cat for the last week and a half, it made a pretty big difference. Right now I am running it straight out of the glasspack and the interior noise isn't bad.

This Thursday, I will measure how much room there is between it and the rear axle and cut that much off of my old pipe so I can have a downpipe on it. I will also flip the clamps bolt-side up so they won't get bent like my old one did.

As for sound, it is a bit quieter and the tone is much lower. Imagine a stock sound but much lower and a little louder. I also expect it to not catch on rocks and stuff since it is perfectly round and only 3.5" in diameter.

But I'll end this rambling over damned exhaust tube by asking if it would be a bad idea to use a metal coathanger or something to tie around the end of the pipe and hang it from the factory exhaust hanger. I am afraid the muffler/downpipe will be too much weight and will bend the exhaust over time.

EDIT:Put the downpipe on yesterday. It made it a little quieter inside.

And this is the original muffler. Beat up a bit.

yeah i used a coat hanger, worked

got myself a cherrybomb and it likes to slid off **** which is awesome. you will prolly end up having to manipulate the bends in the tail pipe, as the cherrybomb is straight, factory muffler is offset

I have a cherrybomb on my XJ too... at first I used a piece of flexpipe to connect the "muffler" (I use that term loosely, it's really not muffled at all. LOUD!) to the tailpipe. That lasted all of a month till the flexpipe tore apart. So I just got a 6" piece of exhaust pipe, and loosened everything up. Hangers, converter connections, everything. Put the piece of pipe in between the Bomb and the tail pipe, and start tightening everything up from the front to the back. It works. Occasionally I have to readjust the rear hanger because the tailpipe will rattle on the hitch, but its no big deal. A lot cheaper than replacing a muffler every 6 months...

I will get pics once I have the downpipe on. And when I said attaching my old downpipe, I meant I am gonna dump it right before the rear axle. I used to always drag it when it was under my bumper so now I won't have to worry about it anymore.

How would I get a sound clip of it? And thanks for the advice on the coathanger

if anything, id turn the turndown so its sort of pointed down and out the side, so the fumes will go out the side of the jeep, but whatever works i guess.

If you notice, the pipe is pointing down and to the side. Plus I have not had a fume problem since I put it on, even before the downpipe.
Sound file From a website (not mine). The website is here . Sounds just like mine.

So far, I have noticed my highway mileage has gone up and I haven't noticed a change in low-end power.
