wow ... wtf have i been doing ...
well i have been driving it a little here and there, i couldn't be happier with it. sounds AWESOME, drives smooth, just love it. got new front shocks on, made it a lot better. the dodge 2500 master is great. brakes are still not ballanced since the rears are so much bigger then the front, but better then with the factory master/prop. once the new front axle/brakes are in she'll be real nice. i cut up the factory prop valve mount to make the mount for the willwood as well. got the line lock wired up for a "parking brake" and all 3 switches are wired to idiot lights on the cluster, but only the line lock is in. (line lock, ARB air compressor, aux lights) ![]() ![]() got the cover made for the e-brake hole, good layer of weather stripping under it. ![]() ![]() got the mirror brackets functional. i bought the KC windsheild light mounts and added my own mirror bracket b/c i couldn't find any mirror brackets i liked. plus more lights never hurt anyone. i still have some cosmetic touches to make to these, thats why they are only on with the one bolt. but they will pass inspection, so if i can get it done before the move it's all good. ![]()

and with these, it's "DONE!" obviously a long way to go till it's really done, but this makes it ready for inspection. hopefully here in the next week i can borrow a set of small tires for the pics to send the state, and it'll be daily driving it.
before anyone asks, it'll be a year before i can dive back into working on this thing for stuff like the front axle n cage. planning the wedding is leaving me feeling ... drained. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks great Matt! If you ever trailer it back to PGH, to hit Wellsville, hit me up. You can park it in my driveway instead of taking up all the space at your parents.

20's anyone?? tires are actaully 275/60-20, so not even that small
so i borrowed these wheels n tires to put the jeep thru inspection. with any luck they'll put it thru easy n i can return these n be done with it. with the move, n 2 weeks in china for work ... there has just been NO time. i might actually have to take time off work to take it in.

so i FINALY had to just take off work to go n get the jeep inspected. started the process, sent in all the paper work and pictures from the "enhanced inspection" staion. i have to get the new title back from the state saying "Collectable" and a new plate as well that says the same thing. this could be anywhere up to 6 weeks ... was under 2 last time. then to get my inspection sticker the guy wants more exhaust on the jeep, and thats not really bad thing (just a pain in the arse to do), so i'll finish that up.
THEN i rock it to work every day and hope no cops are pissy about tires sticking out ...

Glad we don't have inspections like that out here. Mine's a loooong ways from legal anyway, but they don't do full on detailed inspections with exhaust, etc.

i love PA ... but i would pay the state $2500 right now to exempt myself/spouse and all vehicles current/future from any inspection BS. all they really want is $$, so just let me pay you n be done with it!!
the nice thing is though, the jeep will have a one-time registratoin fee perminant plate. done. just gota pay the $35 each year for the inspection sticker.

saftey yes, but the collectable is exempt from emissions and is how i get away with the 6.0L.
basicaly you either drive something new n nice that passes no questions asked ... or you know a guy. it's not that hard. if you are dumb enough to take something unique to PepBoys for inspection, you deserve to fail cuz they don't know the law and always side with caution to cover their own butt.

the shop just told me that PennDOT mailed me the new title/plate on the 24th and to allow up to 10 days to arrive. that means the hard part is DONE!! no longer matters what i do, i just need some shmuck to give me a safety sticker cuz i'm exempt from emissions. the 6.0TJ is a go!
i already have over 500 miles of back roads logged on it and she's doing GREAT. i love this thing more every time i take it out. recently added exhaust the goes all the way out the back vs just dumps in front of the axle and it made all the difference in the world. pics of that coming as soon as i remember to get em

so last night getting the sticker they asked me how many miles were on it "630 ... and 625 without the cops knowing"
on my way to the shop google took me on some back roads off an exit earlier then i normally would have. whatever, it's a nice day i'll drive around. some podunk little hole in the wall no stoplight town had both cops out. one on each side of town so like 1.5 miles apart making quota end of the month. first guy had someone pulled over, second one came after me with vigor. walks up all smug "as you drove past i noticed you didn't have a sticker here" "no sir, on my way now for the new plate and inspection" .. pull out all state paper work and forms, explain entire 'collectable vehicle' bit 4 times. modified, limited use, blah blah blah, .. he goes back to the car with my info no longer smug but confused and irritated. comes back all smug again and reading the vin sticker on the door jam since i had no doors on "sir, this registration is good but your plate is inactive, dead." .. crap, i gota explain this again .. "i'm going for a new plate sir, it's waiting at the station. if you'd like to call them for the new number.."(reach for phone) he stops me, looks all pissed like i've wasted HIS time "no i'll trust you and let you off with only a warning this time, but if i ever see you drive thru here again with this plate we are going to have some real issues" suddenly you see a light bulb go off in said podunk town cops mind and he turns back around, thinks he got me and the smug starts to come back "so if this is a limited use vehicle, what else do you drive" "i have a 2008 GMC 2500HD that i use to tow this and my OTHER jeep to the trail with" pissy n smug turns to pissy n jealous "have a nice day sir" "thank you, and yourself" [start 6.0L TJ with foot half to the floor 'accidentally'] drive off thinking to myself, good thing he didn't notice my 3rd brake light not hooked up, no doors, and the tires sticking 4" past the fenders. idiot. the ppl in the shop all laugh, "yeah, must have been 'town-x' those guys are dicks" then discussed driving back thru waving my new plate at them as i passed.

working on collecting parts for the front 609 now, already have all the parts for the 3-link with exception of getting Tim to cut the pates. still gota finalize the design for those as well. the ball joints and unit bearings in this d30 are i'm sure crying mercy over the 37s and effective 3" of back spacing. fixing that is my main goal, i'll upgrade it later if/when the need/funds arise. i ran the numbers for build cost on the axle combos and what a huge difference a few details make. looks like i will be starting out with a 31-spline open carrier 609. will be just fine for a few years as it won't see hard wheelin anyways.

hmm, never fails that plans seam to change again ... the plan is still a 609 though. might have an axle to cannibalize soon.
also teaching the old dog n new pup to play nice together while measure for new rear shocks.

When we used to ride Paragon the cops would literally sit out waiting for people with tires sticking out. BTW, I have an Ohio address I'll let you register at for less than $2500.

![]() and yeah, it should be a LOT better then the d30. plus a touch of sexy. looking like right now i'm getting this d60 from under a guys buggy, 35spline chromo outers n chromo drive flanges, parting it down n selling a few things i don't need like the high steer. then SolidAxle inner c's on a spidertrax housing. will go in shaftless to start life cuz i HAVE to get the new axle in to be rid of the d30 ball joints and unit bearings asap. maybe the following season get the matching inner shafts and 35spline 9" third in it. once those go in though ... i'll REALLY need some rock sliders. at that point i won't be able to keep it off the trail. i've driven the JK i had and this jeep without incident on the fender coverage. plus now i have the all black collectable plate that the cops really have no clue what to do with. it's a "limited use" vehicle with other exceptions and retitled "as modified" so i'm not too worried about the tires sticking out. they are literally the ONLY legally questionable aspect of the jeep.

ok then, got some parts to work with! picked up a chevy 60 that was up and running under a buggy this season till the back end came all apart n he decided he was done. bearings and all are good to go, even the brakes are fresh so that makes things easy. i even get 35-spline chromo outers and drive flanges on the ready to run knuckle out.
the plan now is to get the Spider-9 housing/seals and a set of SolidAxle inner c's made for the 3" tube. i can then sell this housing as is to someone who can rebuild it with their parts. 4.56/welded, 3-link mounts, custom diff cover, full hydro mounts, and toy drive shaft flange. non are the prettiest, but all looks solid. will also be selling the high steer arms that are drilled out for heim bolts. it's kinda funny parking the YJ, my trail rig, right in front of it ... but it's for the TJ, my daily driver. in all honesty with the highsteer and 4.56s i could cut off the link mounts n bolt it under the YJ with little to not hassle or extra parts.

I think you should slap that thing under the YJ and source some different outers for your 609 project. Jussayin.
