I have a problem with my 97 cherokee. Earlier it would not turn any lights on or anything, and i figured that the battery cables were bad, so i replaced those, and now when i try to turn it over, it will only run if i have my foot on the gas pedal. Also, it sounds like some noise is coming from the starter (not a clicking, but like a rubbing). The starter is only one year old and has not been offroad since i've had it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ben

Anytime you disconnect the battery, you reset the computer and it will try to idle at 0rpm, forcing you to push the pedal. At least thats what its like on my Jeep. It usually idles normally as soon as I start driving it. However it used to take days for the idling to fix itself, I'm really not sure why it does better now-a-days.

That could be it, I'm going to try and drive it down the street tomorrow and see if the problem doesn't work out. Does anybody think it could be a vacuum line? I'm also going to check out those tomorrow, but any other input would be appreciated.

I had a torn vacuum line once, and it didn't affect a thing. But it wouldn't hurt to check them.
