Ok, I have a question for you guys/gals. I sold my XJ last month to buy a TJ and preferably I'd like to find a 4.0. However, today I got a call from a guy who wants to trade his 97 TJ for my beater car (93 Honda). He wants to trade EVEN except the jeep's engine is blown and it's a 2.5L (only 115k on the chassis). I know finding the engine isn't a problem, but I was wondering if I'll be happy with the 2.5L and how much is involved with installing a 4.0???? I've already found a 2.5 tonight. Any info is greatly appreciated.

old and boring

The 4.0 will hardly do any worse for mileage, and it gets a ton more power. I'd definitely put that in. Just get the wiring harness with the donor motor and the swap shouldn't be too bad

Ok guys, sorry to ask so many questions, but I can't find much info concerning this. I will need the 4.0 engine, tranny, and I'm assuming wiring harness and computer. Does anyone know if this is just a plug and play procedure?

why not just swap in a V8, you can buy complete chevy trucks with vortec 350's, 700r4 tranny's and then adapter your case for pretty close the the price and time it'll take to swap in a 4.0L. Just my thoughts on the subject, but the trade seems pretty fair since a 93 accord is only worth around $3,500 and taht's what TJ's with blown motors seem to be at.

I think the computer is plug and play, but like you said, it has to match 4.0 ECM to a 4.0L engine. To my understanding, it "programs" itself based on sensor inputs...
