Mmmmm milky:
thats probably more condensation not getting burned off from short trips than a head gasket

If so the rest of the oil looked the same. Took a bit of work to get it rinsed out of the pan. I just changed the oil on the MJ, so I captured that and refilled the engine with my dirty oil as a first purge. We cranked the engine untill we got some oil pressure and saw oil coming up to the rockers. We drained that out, and saw more white sludge coming out after that cranking. Refilled with fresh oil and filter and out it back together. We took it for a test drive last night.....and it runs. Need some more drive time to make sure the issue is solved.

I was talking about just the cap. If all the oil looks like that you have other problems.

Not as bad as that, but sure was cloudy, and remained separated from other regular used oil when we filled a washer fluid jug with used oil

Ok so nearing the home stretch on this. Took the seats out, cleaned them up, rebuilt some foam on the drivers seat. The seat was in very good shape and the vinyl had previously been replaced, but a little bit of the foam was squished enough that the fabric was loose.

Cleaned carpets, painted the end caps and side trim. Replaced the rear wiper switch and got the rear wiper working. Replaced the front fog lights with new ones. Repainted the front bumper, misc cleanup and touchup, painted roof rack. Got another set of wheels on craigslist which overall was a little nicer, buffed those up and will be taking them to costco tomorrow to get some new Michelins mounted.

Still planned are front and rear diff service, and trans flush, transfer case fluid change also.

Before:

Back cleaned:

Clean, but still some old coffee hiding under the seat we hit again:

New fogs:

Some scratches on the wheel:

After:

All wheels buffed and ready for new tires:

Other wheels/tires still on, buffed, but not quite as sharp as these:

Getting close!

What kind of tools do I need to take the covers off xj seats
I jave seat heaters for ours I have never got around to installing. Just hog rings and pliers? Any tips? My drivera sdie seat cushion has the normal wear from sliding in and out.

No special tools. I don’t use hog rings but I do use small zip ties and flush cutters.

Take seat out 3x13 mm bolt 1x18mm nut. Drivers side has seat belt sensor plug.

Remove plastic trim 3x Phillips.

Unbolt upper section, 2 x 13mm on recline lever side. 1x13mm on trans tunnel side or T40. Keep plastic spacer between seat parts on the bolt. You’ll see what I mean, don’t lose it.

Flip base upside down and remove plastic groove holder from front, inside and carpet. Two fir tree style release clips on vinyl side.

Use pliers to twist and break hog rings.

Upper portion is easy since you don’t need to pull cover off just open at the bottom and slide the heater up.

I hate drum brakes:

Pictures don't do the wheels justice for how shiny they look in person. Real pleased with how they buffed up/cleaned up.

Rebuilt seat cushion:

Changed all fluids today, I dont think the diffs had ever been done before, front looked like used motor oil, the rear looked brand new.

Trans fluid was really dark, like motor oil, but transfer case had only some tint to it.

I'm going to do front brakes tomorrow, then front wheels go on for good. We have had a vinegar flush filling the cooling system since at one point it was badly rusted, to the point the heater core was totally block with rust scale. We have blown it out and rinsed but having that acid sit in there will eat up the rust scale remaining. Time to purge it out now.

There are non left around here that aren't rotted out, so it's tough to say, and finding a stock one is even harder. The last few that I have seen that were fairly clean, and just needed rockers were around $4k, but they were lifted with 33's and had the normal offroad goodies on them. One even had a fairly new Golen stroker motor with a D44 swapped in up front for about that same price too.

Clean and stock is hard to find. Combine in lower miles and its harder to find.

This one came from PA and NY so it does have some surface rust, but nothing cancerous. That’s the one thing it has working against it.

From what I’ve seen of recent around here, I think I can get 6-8k for it.
