also got a suck-down winch on! new options to play with

was a few years ago, but one of the last 2 or 3 trail rides i did, one of the guys but the bug in my ear that it would really help my jeep. so why not.

how can you go wrong with a $70 winch and $7 snatchblocks? the rest of the steel is all from the scrap bin.

I had suck downs front and rear on the old tj (front was just the big winch) I'm not sure if I ever did anything hardcore enough to need them but I liked to think they help. The front of that tj had a ton of droop.

the YJ never had crazy droop, but it never climbed well at all. was being followed by some old-school guys on one trip and after watching me for a bit they suggested one. the leaves would unload quick and provide very little control of the front axle. this should not only help my CG a little to get more weight on the front for traction, but also keep the front axle from dancing and bouncing off traction.

here's hoping.

lower rad outlet, and the new suck-down cross member.

i thought for sure i would only be really close to the rad outlet, but still over top of it. oops.

looks like i can actually lower the rad by most of that without doing anything but re-drilling the mounting holes in the rad flange. after that maybe a small clearance in the cross member web will do it.

Just put a 4" tube through the cross member and run the hose through it

So I moved the radiator down 1.5", didn't even need to clearance or move anything else. Just re-drilled the mounting holes. Also made a small clearance in the crossmember web, game on.

Then I got a new electric fan in and did the first real test fit in the enclosed. It's TIGHT. Backed in since that axle fit between the wheel arches, was a huge pain in the ass. Looks like I need the rollers to make things easy.

I am way too lazy to have to swap tires on and off everytime I tow my jeep.

Yeah, will see how this goes. Camping in the trailer and the extra space might be even better. Floor jack, 20v 1/2" impact, and the swap only takes like 3min.

the new stuff is working awesome, just new tires alone has been huge. this first picture is actually with the 37s off the TJ, ran them in the comp to get a lower class.

also just installed a Poison Spyder fold down tire carrier i got from my BIL free off his his jeep. something about it wasn't great for a family rig should be awesome on the YJ.

1) Towing/camping with the enclosed is freakin awesome.
2) ProEagle jacks are WORTH the money!

had it out a few times and things are working really really well. a few issues though.

Steering:
currently just the power box with reduced leverage since i wanted the option for more deg or steering later. it's like driving manual steering in the rocks, it sux, it has to all go. time for full hydro ... eventually.

fuel system:
PSI drain back was super bad and it wouldn't start to save it's life, also was running only 44psi when it needs 52+ and was way off it's game. solved all this by FINALLY going to a fuel cell in the back to replace the factory tank, returnless fuel rail, and fender mounted adjustable PSI reg. soooo much more room in the back now, and super glad i went with the holy in-tank cuz it's quite and was easy.

more stuff to fix!

BDS 2" full military wrap leaves, and i'd never use anything but. i didn't even know it was broken til i was home and washing the jeep! these leaves lasted me 17+ years of abuse, so they owe me nothing ... BDS has a lifetime warranty, but i lost the proof of purchase a decade ago. ordered 4 new ones, but i'm worried it's going to be like 3" taller than now

well ... poop ... replaced 2" BDS springs with 2" BDS spring and got a 3.25" lift

picture below is just the front leaves swapped, and it's almost level with the rollers n 40s! i ended up taking out the 4th leaf and she squatted another 1.5", so i'm good with leaving it at a 1.75" lift for now. should settle down another 1"+ after the first run or 2 hopefully.
