Default e3 spark plugs

Just bought a 2011 JK. Need a bit more power out of the minivan v6. Any opinions on the e3's?

might run a tad smoother, or start a touch easier ... but won't be any more power that you'll notice. i do like to use the E3's though.

best bet i found for that motor, short of a blower, is to get a superchips or similar programmer on it. just the throttle response along is worth it.

Ok. I may look into that, I had a DiabloSport on my Silverado and loved it. I may see what ram air does to it as well.

for a jeep i'm always a fan of the stock air box. any added air (while most actually are worse) doesn't outweigh the water/dirt protection of the factory air box.

if you REALLY want to get more power to ground, you need gears. that motor basically should never be driven below 2500 Rs, and the best way is to gear it a few steps past stock. no they aren't cheap, but you can pick something maybe a bit high for the current tire and might be a bit low for what you'd think of as a crazy big tire, and just do it. the cost vs torque to ground is great. 4.88 and 35's is a solid mid point, a local offroad shop around here, parts and labor, is like $1400.

3.73 --> 4.88 is over 30% ... not only is it after the trans so it can't suck some of it, but the trans should react and eat less having to work less.

I guess I could see the ram filter sucking in some extra dirt.

I could do gearing. it will need tires in no more than a year, i was thinking 2 inch and 33's. Maybe 4.10's or 4.56's. Time will tell.

Meanwhile, my JKS's are on the way so a trip to the mounds is in order soon.

33's i'd say 4.56 MINIMUM ... probably would still look into the 4.88's

i can run off a graph of RPMs of tire vs gear later if you'd like.

Let's think of it this way. OEM's are at the point of spending $1,000,000 for every 0.1 MPG increment they are able to gain in today's new vehicle market.

If the e3 spark plugs made a substantial difference, wouldn't they have already done it?

One of my friends did some work on an e3 spark plugs research project at Michigan Tech, and if I recall, the benefits were negligible.

i feel like i've seen dyno runs on some saturday morning show or youtube series ... like horse power or engine masters ... that showed a power gain at least. maybe 0.5-1%. but that doesn't mean they help emissions at all.

to be fair, i run E3's in my 4.6L stroker and both LQ4's for the TJ and 2500HD

That makes sense. The only test results I've seen are from Bosch themselves, ill do some research.

Yeah, it was Stacy David, and featured the research done at MTU. I went through school with some of the guys shown in this video.

You can also see Stacy David meeting with a group of the wheelers (for a split second) at 0:43. That was very fun...getting to meet him. He signed a few dashboards and checked out some of the club rigs. He's a cool guy.

Granted, the research in the video was sponsored by e3, so they are definitely going to show an advantage. That being said, I am quite confident that OEMs would pay a premium price for a spark plug that delivered real world performance and emissions gains
