Will this be a direct swap into my XJ? And, do they have different types of d44s?
Also, is there different gears in them? I did a search, but couldn't find any info.

i don't think it's a direct swap, but wouldn't be too hard. The bolt pattern is going to be off. You could go D44 in the front too...
Or get an XJ D44 for the rear if you are lazy, or don't have a way to get it set up. You can buy mine

I deserved that...

usually it came with 4.10 gears, my 76 chief did. I'm not 100% sure if the mounts are the same, but the width is perfect for an XJ.

Some waggy's have amc 20 rear, some have centered rear 44, some have offset rear 44. I am assuming you are talkin bout the rear. Im' not shure if its a direct swap, but it shouldnt be too bad....

On my 87 Waggy D44, the spring perches were just about right to swap into an XJ. Shocks mounts were off a bit though. Nothing a grinder and a welder can't fix though. It's also slightly narrower than stock, mine is about 59" wide WMS-WMS.

Oh yeah Nate, if you want a road trip there's a guy in Spokane with an XJ D44 for sale. He's asking $250 OBO.

Are you saying your Waggy 44 was narrower than whatever stock axle you had? Nate, look for an 8.8 with Disc's. You should be able to find one of those in that great big city down there.

Nate, what year? The D44 from a waggy has two types, and that determines what side the diff is on.
