Default Need some paint info...

I guess I could have put this under general, but since its a towrig, I'll put it here....

I'd like to fix the bed on my ramp truck. The truck has lived in colorado its whole life, and is very rust free. But the bed looks like it wasn't prepped right before paint, and its all flaking off and bubbling. Im going to have the bed sandblasted, but I dont know what to paint it with to avoid this again. I want the bed repainted white, but is there a better primer to use before I paint it?

I was just wondering if any of you guys have had luck with a specific product.

It sold on ebay last week, $6900. Transport company is picking it up tomorrow to go to virginia. I just put a brand new injection pump on it, new tires, bed was linex'd, new tie rod ends & borgeson steering shaft.

The guy got a great deal.

I would say some kind of implement primer would suit you well. Roam a Fleet Farm or TSC or something...the Apple Orchard I used to work at had beautiful tractors, once they re-painted them...with high quality paint they would keep looking good for a loooooong time.

I've always had good luck with comercial coatings paint from Napa. I used some primer my dad had from Napa nad comercial coatings black on my jeep frame when I first built it. The paint was still good when the frame went in for scrap.

I'll have to take a look at their website, do they sell a primer, or can you get that stuff in colors?

Ive used the normal black por15 on some suspension parts and its good stuff. They even have a warning on the lid telling you that the only thing that will take it off of your skin is time!

I just dont want to have any problems with the finish in the future, the truck is nice & presentable, but the bed looks like it went down with the titanic...

This looks like the stuff! Ive beat on metal that had been por15'ed with a hammer and the stuff wouldn't come off. So now that I know they make a white paint, thats probably what I'll use.

Here it is, the toughest, most beautiful white coating you'll ever use. Like our internationally-famous POR-15, WHITECOTE cures to a rock-hard, non-porous finish that won't chip, crack, or peel when applied as directed. It's perfect for wrought iron patio furniture, plumbing fixtures, etc., because it's super-tough, not UV-sensitive, and brilliantly white. Use it to repair a bathtub or sink with chips or rust stains, or to paint and protect an old boat, trailer or RV, or anything that you want to be permanently white.

I have done the same. Once I did that, I realized that I would be using POR 15 alot in the future.
