Before starting,

After getting it out

I also have to
-install some JKS/ORGS rear shock mounts (thanks jason)
-install a C-ROCK steering brace
-wire in a in-cab winch contol
-fab up a Powertank bracket, get the tank filled and install it

-and of course we are going wheeling one day this weekend too!!

I'm going wheelin. Rather than fixing things I will be generating more things to fix.

But, today I put together a new driveshaft with a longer slip yoke and 2 new u-joints, and I got my aux lights working again and wired properly through a relay, and tomorrow I'll have the CB working again and the rear aux lights working.

Timmay, you should do a write-up on the disc install. I've never seen it done on the 8.25(I think I remember that being what you have) and I'd like to see what parts and stuff you used

Really? It's a fairly common swap. I've only seen one writeup on it. After buying the 96 ZJ brackets, I saw a Libby with discs in the rear, and remembered they had the 8.25 in the rear. I havent seen anyone do the libby swap so I went with the ZJ swap. Im not sure if the bolt pattern is different or net, etc. etc. The ZJ brackets required VERY minor grinding to the larger opening that fits around the axle tube. I also slightly grinded the bolt holes to line up better, it was a pretty tight fit and I didn't want to flatten the threads. I took off under a 1/16" off the bracket to make it fit, very easy and took about 3 minutes with a dremel. A writeup will come soon enough once I get these damn banjo bolts. Expect it saturday night.

That one writeup I used is here:

http://www.akappler.com/document_ser...&doc=rear_disc

That's for a pre-97 8.25. But mine bolted up fine. Lemme know if you have any ?s.

I'm definitely gonna do that sooner or later since I got through drum brakes every couple thousand miles, most of which they don't work at all. Do you have to do anything with proportioning the brakes, or does it balance itself out pretty well? Thanks man

</font>
Not sure about the prop valve so far, but worse comes to worse I'll swap in a ZJ prop valve. Pulling the O ring in the rear of the XJ's prop valve seems to be a popular idea, but people have said it's done nothing to help them. I figure the ZJ prop valve will be already set up for rear discs, so no worries there.

Cost was a helluva lot cheaper than buying the kit. If I where you i'd hit up a junkyard for the caliper brackets and calipers for cores.

Loaded calipers where : $119 a pop with $50 cores.

Caliper Brackets : $82 a peice even with the guy knocking $30 off each one.

Rotors : $27 each

Parking brake shoes : $22

Parking brake hardware kit : $23
* which didn't include the $13 lever to actuate the parking brake (we got the last two levers on the east cost from a dealer in ghettoville philly.)

Forgetting to buy banjo bolts before everyone closed..... : priceless.

I need to get backing plates from someone doing a ZJ rear axle swap (colin? ) so I can rig up the parking brake. If I cant get anything I think i'll get a mechanical line lock (those miniature calipers...) and run that.

Hopefully that book helped you out

EDIT : BTW that may seem really expensive, but people have been getting those caliper brackets and backing plates from the junkyard for like, $15-$20 a side.

That'll save you $120 on the brackets, and $90 on the backing plates.
