Well my tranny is leaking fluid and I can't figure out from what exactly. Its out the front by the oilpan. Yet when I remove the lower cover there is no oil sitting in the bottom of the bell houseing. The tranny cooler lines are not leaking. It looks like its above the tranny. It leaks onto the starter and then sometimes keeps it from starting do to grouds.

sure its tranny fluid? you checked to see if there is a change in the level on the stick i guess. think there is a freeze plug around that location (above the starter), could be the rings for the oil filter housing are gone (oil blowing from that).

if you checked the lines, fittings, etc...? oil coming down from back of head, back of block somewhere maybe? good luck!

late...

Just did the remain thinking it was that. 2 days later same thing happen. Dripiage. So I checked all the fluids tranny fluid was real low. Filled it up and man dripping even more. Its also red fluid atf III.
So where is the freeze plug? Got a pic?
Also if it were leaking out of the dip stick would it leak that much?
Is there a o-ring or a seal when the dip stick uppers meet the lowers?

I am still fighting the same problem. I did the rear main and it didn't fix it. I was checking fluids one day and notice the tranny was low. So I filled it up to the line on the stick. So now its tranny fluid that seaps out and gets between the starter and the bell housing and doesnt allow a good constant conenection with the starter. Hence no starting
