I have a 95 G.C.L. w/ the 5.2. When driving through the blue ridge mountians(Mt. Rogers) on the way home it wants to shift into high gear even while the O.D. is off. Then it'll shift back to low gear and then back to high gear. The only way it doesn't do it is if I have it close to full throttle, And thats not good for it. Out on the open roads it shifts normal w/ o.d. on and off.
Is it something computer related or should a towing shift kit do the trick. If the shift kit will fix it, which one is recommended. Also has anyone had any problems with their heater blower cutting off and on, specifically in the 95's. Mine will operate fine then it'll just stop and sometimes it may not work for a day or two and sometimes it'll come back on in a couple minutes. I went to get checked out and the damn thing wouldn't foul up to save my life so the guy said it wasn't much he could do till it actually wasn't working. What can possibly be the problem and a possible remedy? |

I don't know about the auto tranny, though it is probably linked directly to the ECM.
With the heater, if you are talking about the fan cutting in and out, then see if its the fan resistor pack. Located under the right hand side of the dash. My fan stopped working (except on ultra-high), I found another resistor at a junkyard for 50 cents. Works great now.

The way i understand it there is a kickdown cable on the throttle body that when it reaches a certain point that somehow tells the tranny to kick down to passing gear. I don't know if a shift kit will help or not but i live in the Blue Ridge Mountains and this is what i do when going up the mountain to Boone. I am normaly going about 65 at the bottom of the mountain and i pull the tranny into 3rd gear and put the peadle to the floor and when it gets going to fast i let off a little and let it slow down just a hair. As long as the speed doesn't drop below 60mph it won't kick down to 2nd gear. This is with a 4.0 and 31in tires on stock gears so i would think your 5.2 should have a good deal more power than my 4.0.

The kickdown cable is controlling the governor pressure when line pressure overcomes it, the transmission up shifts, vise versa. I had that same problem with my jeep and it can be related to vacuum leaks or a TPS sensor being improperly adjusted. I would just drive the mountain with the tranny in 3.

My tranny doesn't have a 3rd gear position, it goes from D 2 1 on the shifter selector, and has a push button O.D. selector on the dash. when going up the hills i have the O.D. off so it want shift into it's highest gear, but it still wants to but it will fall back if a little more throttle is givin. I just thought that maybe a towing shift kit could help with the problem. If i still wannna go that route, what kits do any of you suggest, cause I do plan on doing some hauling with it and it's not a towing package G.C..
I'll check the TPS and check for any vac. leaks. |
