So, I might have an opportunity with one of these. Guy took it to the dealer for a transmission leak. Shifts a little hard into 1st. Dealer wrote the guy a huge list of issues and a huge quote to fix it. They told him they'd give him $800 for it. I dont know **** about this transmission. Read some about it seems to have some shifting issues. It's got the 4.0l in it with 140k in it. Does anyone have any thoughts if it'd be worth it to fix ir replace the trans? It's all stock, hard top, not much for rust. Should I try to buy this thing? I'm gussing he'll want more than $800 for it. I just dont want to buy a headache thats gona cost me $3k to fix.

Get it. Even if you throw 3k at it, you can double your money (depending on what you pay for the jeep).

Little to no rust - grab it!

Have any you guys done the ax15 swap in case this 3550 is junk. I've read some people have just put Redline MYL fluid in them to alleviate hard shifting issues.

Just check the rear frame where the lower control arms are for rust.
Even a high mileage TJ here is 6-9 grand

Yes, just dump it and run a high quality gear oil and see what happens.

Ditto on checking the frame. What do you think you can get it for. I bet he’d be a seller at $1500. Depends how bad you want it and how automotivally inept the seller is. Because he could likely grab 3k+ on craigs or Facebook market

So, check the rust, you get a price yet, guy gonna sell it reasonably, you gonna buy it?
i don't care what the jeep is ... if it moves under it's own power it's worth $800

Yeah, that's well established...but an $800 Jeep w/ a shytty frame turns into an expensive deal. Not everyone wants a project that big...but a transmission, or similar, sure - no brainer!
That said, also don't think he's getting it for $800
So, Wrekk, stop w/ the F'n suspense :p
