Y'all remember Dietz?
a while ago he restored an 8274 warn really nicely. just after he finished i found another close to him for only $300 and he went to snag it. said i'd buy it from him if he rebuilt it. properly restored and upgraded he decided he'd rather trade it for help with his jeep. game on! over the last few weeks i've gotten his new LJ fixed up with highline tube fenders and modified a CJ 8274 mount to fit his frame. (yes the mount looks off-center, but the fairlead is centered) i did something different with these fenders i've been wanting to try. the hardest part of highline is moving the inner fender well and/or remaking and remounting everything. well, what if i just left it alone? so the factory inner fender has 3 bolts to the grill and 4 bolts to the rear support off the tub. cutting off the outer fender there is basically no change to inner arch stiffness. everything is still 100% factory mounted, no messing with anything. and his current 35's don't touch the inner, so why move it? the outer fender, the tube fender, is then completely separate and removes super easy. doing any work under the hood I'd not hesitate to pop it off for way better access. the fender design he settled on was fun with 3 tubes, each supported by the next with no single tube to put in and build from. turned out great though. 4.5" flare. with the fender surface moved up there is now a gap down to the inner fender. figured he can either add a rubber flappy on there if he really wanted, or just take the extra air under the hood and move on. i suspect they'll remain open and never be an issue. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
